Project/Object at Majestic Theatre

I'm a fan of Frank Zappa. A small "f" fan - but one with a real appreciation of his brilliance. . . On the other hand, my old friend Paul Schroeder in Chicago is a FAN! He introduced me to Zappa back when we shared the same dorm floor as college freshmen. And he now has the most complete collection of FZ recordings you could imagine - both audio and video. . . We saw a lot of great shows together. So when Paul recommends a band performing the music of Frank Zappa - as he did with Project/Object - I take notice.

Throughout the Fall '07 Surge for Zappa Music Tour - which touched down at the Majestic Theatre on Tuesday night - Project/Object has been featuring Napoleon Murphy Brock on sax, flute and vocals. The very same Napoleon Murphy Brock that played with FZ in the 1970s - including the albums One Size Fits All, Roxy and Elsewhere, and Bongo Fury. . . It takes some big cajones to take on the Zappa canon. But the musicians in Project/Object are all quite talented and they interpret this music with fun energy. A highlight for me was their rendition of "City of Tiny Lights" - one of my favorites.

Oh, and this was my first show at the new Majestic Theatre. I liked it a lot - an intimate feel from all areas of the theater - and the sound was quite good upstairs and down. Lots of really nice view angles. In short - a great place to see live music!

LOVE! LIVE! MUSIC!
Support Madison's music scene:- the promoters who take risks with shows - the venues that provide the space - and the artists who create the music - Go see live music often! Your spirit will thank you later!
