Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt & Pat Sansone: Concert for Change
November 1, 2008 at Memorial Union Theater, Madison, WI - by Ankur Malhotra

Music for Change anyone? There were plenty of takers, judging by the packed house at the Memorial Union Theater this past Saturday morning when a stripped down WILCO comprising of Jeff Tweedy, John Stirratt and Pat Sansone took to stage with an Obama-Biden campaign banner hanging high overhead.

It was a treat for WILCO fans (including Senator Russ Feingold who it seems is a big fan of Billy Bragg and WILCO's Mermaid Avenue) as the trio belted out some of my personal favorites in their mostly acoustic 9 song set including What Light, California Stars, Jesus, etc., I'm The Man Who Loves You, I Shall Be Released (a sweet rendition of the Dylan classic) and a new song 'Wilco the Song'. The band is not known for writing songs about hope and optimism and as Tweedy quipped, "We don't have very many songs that are appropriate for hope-filled audiences. There is a hope gap!" Nevertheless, beautiful songs what a wonderful way to call in change! Get out and vote - Peace, Ankur
