Stephen Marley
Barrymore Theatre, Madison WI, June 11, 2008

Stephen Marley played a great show last night before a full house at the Barrymore. It was hot, groovy fun as the reggae-loving crowd sang along heartily to familiar Marley tunes. As expected, he played a variety of songs from his father's catalogue as well as original material his 2007 release - Mind Control.

Here's a couple tracks for your listening pleasure:

Have you heard it? Although Stephen has been in the business for 27 years now (having started performing as a child with Ziggy Marley and the Melody Makers), Mind Control is his debut album as a solo artist. Earlier this year, it earned him a Grammy for Best Reggae Album, beating out some of the genre's most legendary artsists, including Burning Spear, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Sly and Robbie and Toots and the Maytals. So it was a real contest. As a producer, co-writer and solo artist, Stephen Marley has now taken home a total of six Grammys, more than any other reggae artist.

Those of us at the Barrymore that were seeing Stephen for the first time also learned that he's also a very charismatic performer!

The Marley family musical dynasty is quite amazing - and we had the opportunity to see the third generation getting into the act as a very cute little 4-year old boy earnestly danced and waved a little Jamaican flag on stage. May it continue on and on. . .
