The Deep Vibration

The Deep Vibration has been generating a lot of buzz particularly for their live performance. I suspect that no band really wants to hear: "They remind me of..." (To my mind, it's always unfair to do that to a good band.) But at least The Deep Vibration can take comfort in the fact that the comparisons have been quite lofty - Wilco, Neil Young, Springsteen, My Morning Jacket... Oh my!

One of my favorite quotes was from the Chicago Reader:

"Front man Matt Campbell mixes the high-pitched cry of Neil Young, the androgynous whine of Tom Verlaine, and the sweet lyricism of Gram Parsons, and the chugging, intertwined guitars give the music an appealing post-Stones strut - all of which is a long way of saying The Deep Vibration reminds me of Uncle Tupelo."

This made me chuckle. You? ... So when I learned that they were going to be making a stop at one of my favorite downtown Madison venues - The Frequency, I got interested!

The band just released a 5 song EP entitled Veracruz (Dualtone) with guest appearances by Spooner Oldham, Al Perkins and Gillian Welch, among others. Here's a few tracks that I really enjoy:

Our friends in the region can also catch The Deep Vibration

Thu Apr 16 at Shank Hall (Milwaukee)
Fri Apr 17 at 400 Bar (Minneapolis)
Mon Apr 27 at Schubas (Chicago)

The cover for the show at the Frequency is only $6 - so I'd say that you really can't afford to miss it!
Hope you can be there! ... Mister Bill
